Written Sunday 3rd January: Happy New Decade

Happy New Year everybody! And Happy New Decade! The noughties are over, and if anyone knows what we are supposed to call this decade (the tenies? the teenies?) could they please let me know.

New Year's Eve on Tern Island was a rather quiet affair, given the lack of alcohol, nightclubs, ceilidhs, firework displays and other people on the island. We stayed up to see in the bells but ended up watching a couple of episodes of 'Lost', a TV show to which we are all hopelessly addicted. As midnight went past a particularly gripping piece of plot was happening (Jack had found another hatch or something), and no-one noticed the dawning of the fresh decade. So when Pete yelled "HAPPY NEW YEAR" at the top of his voice it gave the rest of us a bit of a turn.

On New Year's Day we went snorkelling. If you are a fan of poor quality underwater photography then you might like the following:

Intrepid snorkellers.

A white-tipped reef shark.

This enormous anchor lies just off shore.

Here it is from under water.

Fishies.

A green sea turtle.

Hawaiian domino damselfish.

Pretty coral.
